Week 13- ELL Reflection
After reading through all the videos and information
that was provided this week I realized that ELL’s have a very big challenge in
learning, and I was able to better understand from where my student was coming
from. It was a tremendous learning experience for me to work with Rivky. I
learned so much about teaching and dealing with ELL’s. With the ELL case study, teachers can exactly
pinpoint student’s strengths, weakness, and what she still needs to work on. With
the proper instruction, a dedicated teacher, and a lot of time, effort, and
patience every student and an English Language Learner can succeed. I learned
that a teacher needs to show respect for the ELL students and where they come
from. If teachers show respects and believes in their ELL students, then their
peers and classmates will respect and treat them the same like anyone else in
the class. Working with parents is extremely important, since they can be of
help and make the progress that much easier and smoother.
Additionally, I
also learned that each student is special in their own way, each individual has
their own strengths, weakness, learning abilities and interests. As future
educators, we must look at each child as their own unique person and believe in
what they can achieve and tap into their individual needs and potential to help
them succeed to ultimate success. I am
so glad that I had this opportunity, so that I was able to provide Rivky with
the right instruction so that she can have an easier time in school and master
the English language.
